– I don’t think this is actually shany cosmetics eyeshadows, I say this because with the normal shany cosmetics the eyeshadows have a number/ name and these don’t. However the eyeshadows are not too bad and have a good pigment to them.

Very, very good for 25 cents per color – I am a sucker for an eye-shadow palette and I have (I hate to admit it) dropped a couple of hundred dollars at a shot at Sephora. I love Urban Decay and Too Faced and, in budget palettes, Sleek. I am going to be comparing this Shany palette against these other, much more expensive palettes. But first let me say that for the money the Shaney palette is impressive. The shadows perform much better than some other super cheap palettes, like Hard Candy (the Walmart brand) or some of the cheaper drug store brands (e.g. Wet ‘n’ Wild). The Shany shadows are very smooth to the touch, only slightly powdery, well pigmented, and true to color. Even without a primer, the color lasted me all the way through my Hallowe’en party. The shadows are not, however, as good as UD or Too Faced (not surprising) nor quite as good as the Sleek (the closest competitor with which I am very familiar) or the best of the drug-store brands (e.g. the L’Oreal Infallible eye shadow pans or the Maybelline Tattoo). What are the difference? To my eye, the biggest difference is the quality of the color blend. The Shany are mostly pure single tones. The more expensive palettes are usually a blend of tones. This is especially true of the UD, which have among the best blending of tones that I have found in any shadow products, but it is true for my other, more expensive palettes. I do have one palette with similarly pure tones, the Sleek Ultra Matts V1. Both are very bright, almost “neon”, colors. They both cost about $10. The Sleek palette is only 12 colors, although bigger pans, against the Shany 40. But the Sleek colors are slightly purer, slightly more pigmented, and in texture smoother and less powdery. The two palettes are not perfect substitutes. The Sleek colors are all matte, while the Shany is a mix of matte and relatively subtle shimmer. With 40 shades, Shany palette contains more close shades, making shading and blending together a little easier. Which would I buy if I had only $10 to spend? The Sleek. Am I sorry that I own both? No. In short, if you like to play with eye shadows and your budget is modest, this palette offers a lot of value for a very small price. After trying this palette am I about to go out and buy a bunch more Shany palettes? Not immediately. Will I EVER buy another Shany palette — almost certainly yes.

Recommended, and not just for women born after 1980! – I gave this item 5 stars for good reason! First of all, I was …born before 1970, I’ll own up to that… and asked for this as a Christmas gift due to 1. the VERY reasonable price and 2. the color spectrum. I figured it was a good thing to ask for from my husband– if it turned out to not work for me, it wasn’t too much $$ at stake. It worked out better than I thought, and also better than ANY 20-or-more-colored-eyeshadow set. I grew up in the 80s, so I’ve tried a lot of these. I am having more fun with this kit than I did with most makeup in my 20s. I mainly wanted to try out the greens and purples, and even though I do not look my age, have good genes, and stick to a beauty regimen every day of every year, 41 is 41.
